There are many challenges for residents of the Central Valley regarding healthcare. Poverty rates, air quality, lack of insurance, lack of healthcare providers, food insecurity, toxic water and language barriers. Diabetes, heart disease and asthma are just a few of the chronic diseases that plague the Central Valley.
The lack of insurance keeps residents from seeking preventative care which is more cost effective than being treated in the emergency room. The emergency room is one of the most expensive and less efficient ways to provide health care services.
Our community members health and well-being are tied to our Valley’s economy and environment. We must work to ensure our Valley’s residents have access to preventative services like routine checkups.
We must continue to put pressure on our elected officials to make sure Congress preserves the Affordable Care Act.
